Update (11/13):

Students attending the field trip have been selected. I am proud to announce that there are available spots for alternates. To prepare students for the experience, the adventure club will begin meeting shortly. In addition, the adventure club is open to not only trip participants, but all seventh grade students. Meetings will take place during lunch and rec as well as after school.

Adventure Club

To prepare students for the trip and to bring the fun of adventure travel to all, there will also be an adventure club. The adventure club will meet bi-monthly with mountain biking, hiking, orienteering, navigation, zip lining, team work and general fitness being focus areas.

Welcome to official Wiki Page for Berkshire Adventure Michigan! Below is information on this new seventh grade traveling classroom experience.

What: This is an active traveling classroom adventure where students will visit Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. At these sites, students will experience various kinesthetic learning experiences.

Who: This experience is open to 48 seventh grade students that are willing to make-up three days of coursework.
Definitely apply if:
  • You are willing to challenge yourself physically and mentally (this has nothing to do with athletic ability or talent)!
  • You love active learning!
  • You love working in a team environment with friends!
  • You are one of Berkshire's best!
This trip may not be for you if:
  • You hate the outdoors
  • Ideal travel is going somewhere, shopping excessively, taking selfies, and "chillin"
  • The thought of being dirty, sweaty, or new challenges is terrifying
  • You are not a good team player and prefer to only worry about yourself
When: May 3-5, 2016. The students would leave early May 3 and return May 5 late afternoon.

Why: To introduce students to a new travel mindset, alternate active lifestyles, and an overall fun experience seeing the beauties of our wonderful state!

Cost: The cost is currently $350 per student. Mr. Jackson hopes to lower that price through various travel grants. Also, there are student scholarships available. Please see Mr. Clinkscale or Mr. Jackson for more information.

Chaperones: Mr. Jackson is the trip sponsor and founder and he will be joined by four additional teachers and one administrator. For every Berkshire staff member, there will be eight students. Sorry due to the nature of the activity, parent chaperones are not being accepted at this time.

Application Process: Students will apply in teams of four. Each groups of four will write an essay on why they would make an ideal team to participate in field trip (one paragraph on each group member and a final paragraph on group teamwork). If a student is struggling to find a team of four, please see Mr. Jackson. Student applications are due on November 6, 2015. All groups deemed eligible will be entered in a drawing to select participants.
